The first of many, I hope…

Why blog when there’s Ravelry? This has happened to so many people in the knitbloggosphere. I have more than 800 knit blogs on my Bloglines and so many of them will post after several months’ absence, “Where have I been? Sorry about not posting for so long, I’m not really dead.” Stuff like that. Because everyone’s on Ravelry. But there are those bloggers, mostly the ones who’ve been around for 5 years or more, who still post regularly, despite Ravelry. I regret that I’m not one of them.

I started blogging in January 2005, mostly as a fluke. The story is in my very first post there.

When I blew my blog away in November 08 I had had enough of the time, the cost, and the lack of enthusiasm on my part for posting. I guess I didn’t realize how many people were actually paying attention, because through email, Ravelry and Facebook, people have asked me why, and was everything okay, and was there anything they could do to help. I was surprised, and very, very blessed. So I did the right thing…the wrong way.

I went back to Blogger and established another blog there. My first blog is still around (thanks, Jan) and I’ve read through it from the beginning. I was surprised that on occasion I could be articulate. My last blog is gone completely, because I gave up the domain. All those words, all those pictures and memories. I still have them somewhere on my harddrive, but it doesn’t look like it did…lots of html and not much else.

Anyway, Blogger was the wrong way to go. I couldn’t link to the old blog, and I really wasn’t thrilled with the new one, so it’s been sitting, unused, since midDecember. I have no plans to use it again. Thank you to the people who followed me there. I’m so sorry for letting you down. I’ll give this my best shot.

Katy offered me the option of blogging along with her, and I may just do that too. Her blog has been around for a while, and while it’s not really a knitting/fiber blog, she manages to post frequently enough that it hasn’t turned to dust.

So here I am, with a new blog. WordPress seems fairly comprehensive. There are a lot of things I can easily do in here that Blogger made difficult.  I’m going to try to pretty this up, make sure that there are links to things that you might be interested in, show you what I’m up to with spinning and knitting, and let you know when I’m planning a sale or a destash. I’ll try to get pictures into each post…it makes them so much nicer to read. Any other ideas, let me know.

I’ve been spinning…here’s my first picture, just a few of the skeins that grace my work area, some of which will be for sale soon:  handspun

And perhaps all this will be the impetus for more frequent posting. If it’s easier to do, the chances are I’ll be more likely to do it. Hopefully.

Welcome to my new blog.
